ANTIQUE FURNITURE REPAIR, RESTORATION & CONSERVATION

Copy of the entry in Miller's about the walnut chest

Miller's Antiques Recognition

About 10 years ago, I undertook some work on an 18th century walnut chest on stand. The piece came into the workshop in a derelict condition.

The base section of the stand had to be completely rebuilt and in some cases re-made. There was extensive restoration work required on the chest section of this item including repairs to the carcase, drawers, cross grained mouldings and drawer facing veneers. The brasswork was completely replaced.

I was interested to see this piece of furniture featured five years later in the year 2000 edition of Miller's Antique Price Guide where it was the subject of a "Miller's compares" feature. The piece I worked on is the one on the left of the picture.

Thanks to Miller's Publishing and Andrew Hartley Auctioneers, Yorkshire for their permission to use these images.
